In order to put off pattern writing, I’ve been knitting. Like, crazy knitting. Crazy, selfish, procrastination knitting. A hat, a sweater for myself, a shawl, a swatch book, a baby sweater. Okay, maybe it’s not all selfish.
A hat, as yet unnamed:
I wore this to work yesterday and everyone asked if it was a Stephen West pattern, which I found highly complimentary. It’s an upcoming DrawFour Designs pattern (if I can convince myself to finally settle down and write), featuring two new colors of Jade Sapphire 8-ply Mongolian Cashmere, Primordial and Extinction. Knitting with cashmere is like sinking your fingers into butter. After you’ve used it once, you don’t want to use anything else.
This is all done except for the sleeves. I’m really happy with how this is turning out. Shawl collar, hip length, with copper buttons. If I block this out longer, I think I’ll add a belt. Maybe some chartreuse elbow patches. Let’s see how awesome I can make this.
My niece recently spent some time petting my Knit Notes book, touching all my swatches and running her little fingers through the yarn. She tells me she wants to knit but when she’s “bigger.” This swatch book is my way of encouraging that. Now she has her own yarn and knitting.
Okay, probably time to get down to business. So…who wants to test knit a hat?
