I’m knitting this pattern for the third time and I can’t put into words how incredibly fun it is to tweak. The first one I did was pretty straightforward, just upping the needle size and yarn weight. On the second I added a stripe pattern that everyone seems to love. I think it’s a familiarity thing–has anyone noticed that it’s really the stripes from Ernie’s shirt just in different colors?
Sophisticate #3 is for Twinkle, my future child. When it’s finished, I’ll show it off at StevenBe for a bit and then it will be carefully folded and packed away. All I have left now are the sleeves, which I’m doing two at a time on two circular needles.
Okay, so it’s a smoking jacket. I’m using Misti Alpaca Tonos Worsted for the main color and black Muench Touch Me for the collar and cuffs. The Tonos is soft but has this great structure thanks to the wool content. The Touch Me (try whispering that seductively for a moment, it’s wonderful) is decadent and hides the short row shaping in the shawl collar brilliantly. It’s working up just as I imagined it and I can’t wait to put the buttons on.
Yep. Bond, James Bond. If you’re going to be ridiculous, be completely ridiculous. And don’t apologize for it. My hypothetical kid is going to be the classiest on our hypothetical block.
Unrelated side note: I have a book recommendation for you. You must read The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. It gave me a good sock to the gut yesterday and I’m already rereading it.
